You’ve probably heard that many business and services like to show their appreciation to military personnel and veterans by offering discounts and special deals, and companies in Dallas are no different.
When shopping or choosing a service provider, it never hurts to ask if they offer a military discount. While you shouldn’t necessarily expect one at every business you frequent, you may be surprised at which businesses will indeed make you a deal. You typically must present some sort of proof of ] service – like you military ID, VA ID, or DD Form 214 – and be prepared to (patiently) talk to a manager if the employee is not aware of the discounts.
There are numerous nation-wide eating, shopping, travel and automotive businesses that offer ongoing military discounts, but we’ve collected some additional Dallas-specific deals that can keep a little extra money in your pockets. Whether you are planning a fun family, outing or taking care of everyday errands, these discounts can add up to big savings overall.
Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor
These Arlington amusement parks are a family favorite, but tickets can add up. Check with you local base MWR/ITR office to obtain military discount tickets. Quantities are unlimited with a valid military or DoD ID. Keep in mind that discounted tickets are not available at the parks ticket box, so you must get them ahead of time.
Dallas Stars Hockey
A favorite of Dallas hockey fans, you can often get discounted military tickets at your local base MWR/ITR office. They also often host Military Appreciation nights, so keep an eye on their website or Facebook page for upcoming events.
Texas Rangers Baseball
Check with you local base MWR/ITR office to reserve military discount tickets. The organization also offers military discounts at all levels for those with a valid military ID. This includes all Rangers’ home games except opening day. Call the ticket office at 972-RANGERS for more information.
YesPup.com Complete Canine Training
Based in the Woodlands but offering D/FW area training session, the company offers 10% on all dog training services for active duty members, veterans, guard, reservists and immediate families of active duty personnel.
24 Hour Fitness
24 Hour offers 10% off with its membership discount program for active and retired military personnel and their families. See club for additional details on discounts available. There are five locations in Dallas proper.
Alamo Car Rental
Enjoy a 5-15% discount on your car rental. Veterans must have a disabled veterans ID card or a VA health card to participate. There are two locations in Dallas, both near the airports.
Amtrak Train & Bus
Active duty members receive 10% off tickets and veterans receive a 20% veteran discount with a Veterans Advantage Card. The station is located at 400 South Houston Street, Union Station. The station’s Texas Eagle rail route travels daily between San Antonio and all the way to Chicago.
Apple Computers
The military discount and veteran discount is under the government purchase program, so you will need to sign up online and purchase items online. Check with your nearest Dallas location to see if you can pick up your purchase in-store.
AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile
AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint offer active duty and veterans (and some reservists) their government employee pricing on phone service with a valid military ID or VA ID card. T-Mobile offers 15% Military Discount for active duty and veterans. Veterans should also bring a copy of their DD214.
Budget Rental Cars and Trucks
You can receive an up to 25% discount, depending usage, mileage, and originating store. Bring provide a military or VA ID card to receive the discount. For truck rentals for personal moves, use promotion code USMILPER to save 15% with valid military or dependent ID.
Extra Space Storage
If you’re looking to rent a storage unit, you can find discounts at Dallas Extra Space Storage locations. For participating locations, discounts include first month free and a 5% discount after. Call in advance to get more information.
The Home Depot and Lowe’s
Home improvements can get expensive fast. Take advantage of these two large stores’ 10% off, year-round discounts for active duty, active reserve, retired military, and immediate family. This discount is available in store only with a valid military ID.
Lucky Ducky Lube Center and Car Wash
If you’re tuning up your car, check out the discounts at this Dallas company Active duty and veterans can receive 10% off all services including: oil changes, state inspections, preventative maintenance, brakes, flushes, tire rotations, minor tune-ups, hand wash, and car detailing. They are located at 10710 Audelia Rd. in Dallas.
Walgreens
A drug store plus, you can find everything from small house goods to snacks and candy to toys and office supplies here. Participating stores provide a 15% discount every Tuesday with a valid military ID or VA ID. Additionally, on Memorial Day, you can save 15% to 20% on select purchases.
Target Portrait Studios
Several of the Target stores in Dallas have in-store portrait studios. Active duty, with military ID, can receive 50% of portrait collection, free traditional 8x10 print, free sitting fees, and $3.99 portrait sheets. You will have to check if they will also offer this to veterans.
Sports Clips
Specializing in haircuts for me, participating locations offer 15% military discount year round, as well as free haircuts for veterans on Veterans Day. These locations are individually owned franchises, so it’s good to check ahead of time to find one that offers the discount.
