My dad finally is receiving A&A. He threw away his award letter. It is tiime to move him to a higher (and more expensive) level of care. How do we get the amount of aid increased? Who do we contact? Thanks

Well, first of all, how much is he getting in VA pension per month? If he is in receipt of max rate for a vet with A/A, then he wont get anymore $$$, but you are still required to report the change in his medical expenses. Even if it goes up.
You can call VA and ask to have another copy of his latest award letter sent. The vet will have to be there with you and give his permission for you to talk to the VA rep to make this request. Keep all copies of VA award letters. They explain everything.
Now, on a regular sheet of paper you can make a statement reporting the change in medical expenses. You could also request a copy of the latest award letter in writing too. Submit a copy of a statement from the assisted living facility showing the amount of the increased expenses (what his rate will increase to) and the date he will begin to pay that increased medical expense rate. His VA award will be adjusted accordingly.
You may also want to change his VA mailing address to yours (in care of), but always let the VA know his whereabouts.
If you submit these changes, always have the vet sign his name. if he doesnt, the expenses cannot be used and you will probably get another letter in the mail stating his signature is needed.
good luck.
