I am the former spouse of a retired (now deceased) military officer, who served in Vietnam.  I married after his retirement.   We were married 21 years.  We divorced a few years before his death.   Does anyone know of success as a "former" spouse to receive the Aid and Assistance for long term care or home heath care?

The divorce would make you ineligible for A&A.

The only exception to this ruling would be in the event the divorce was due to physical abuse and that it is well documented.  The VA has been known to consider an application on this merit, but that is no guarantee that the pension would be granted.
